Its a shame about Macromedia's and intel's slack attitude about 3d. I work for a huge defense company and I have been blowing minds with dir3d here in my company lately. They've even increase my funding to research and develop more apps using Dir3d. I've been using Dir3d to write Virtual Reality Training apps by connecting it to systems like the 3rd Tech Hiball system and Intersense's 3d tracking devices. Also, I've written a killer 3d app for city planners.
Contemporary PCs are only just now becoming able to comfortably deal with 3d applications. The common user is completely oblivious to the possiblities and once the are enlighted to the possiblities of this form of visualization, they (from my experience) are completely blown away.
As far as I'm concerned, Director 25 can come out and I'll still use 8.5 or MX if there's no 3d support. I can do just about anything I can think of with what I have right now.
Damn. Now I'm pissed. Macromedia commented out my Christmas.
