feature request: Disconnect hairs from follicles

feature request: Disconnect hairs from follicles

So, I went to check out the Maya 6 launch event last night here in
Seattle,  and there were a few things I was jealous of... like,  can
you believe it, they have a WEB BROWSER embedded now, and you can open
scenes and trigger scripts from it! Holy crap!

But in all seriousness, the hair looked just like the XSI hair, only
better. Here's what we need to match it:
(1) Ramp controls for various values, like width, etc.
The maya ramp widget made it possible to easily modulate all kinds of
things (stiffness, curliness, etc) over the length of the hair.  We
need that widget. Not the big-ass gradient node, just a  small,
functional,  ramp with user definable points on the ramp.

(2) The ability to disconnect hairs from the follicle.  That was
AWESOME. Imagine a bird getting whacked and losing feathers, then
seeing the feathers (hairs) float down using the regular hair-type
dynamics.
Each hair became a free-floating dynamic element, with collision and
all the usual hair stuff.

That's the main stuff.
Oh yeah, the new trax thingy looks just like the mixer.
