hello Kim,

thanks a lot for all the information.

Anyway, I will be in the Londen UK from july 4 - july 8.
If the London-Animators would go for some drinks during those days, let me know
!
I could show you than on the laptop some neat stuff our companies has been
doing.
Jori, finally I could pay you the beers I promised. Kim: you would get also a
few beers.

carl

64 meg isn't bad but I'd definitely try and get core up to 1gig, you'll not
regret being able to load the bigger scenes. For me, when I look for a
laptop I look for a) graphics performance, b) screen resolution and c)
memory. B) and c) are about equally important for me. I like loads of
resolution so I can fit more on screen; some people prefer the larger text
of lower resolution, it's a personal thing. I've had good experiences with
both Toshibas and Sony Vaios and I know a couple of people that like the
Dell machines. If it were me, I wouldn't go for that big Toshiba, it looks
good on paper but it's *big*. Not something you'd want to hump around.

For personal stuff, when I'm not on contract on site, I work almost
exclusively on the laptop but often with a second screen. I've a Vaio with a
1600x1280 screen, 1Gig and Nvidia 6700 with 64Meg and it works well for me.
Other than the Linux experience, of course.

And ...... DO BACKUPS EVERY DAY!! A laptop is too easy to drop/lose/have
stolen/fall in the pool with ..... I use a Lacie half TB and 'some image
archiver the name of which I can't remember but they're probably all the
  same'.

  Good luck, laptops are great.
