Baking Cloth

Baking Cloth

Bryan,
I have used scripts like the one Fabio mentioned and he is correct
that the files can be large but it can work extremely well for
certain situations. It creates morph targets for each frame so long
animation could easily create file that is several hundred
megabytes. Interestingly enough though these files do move in real time.

A similar technique was employed on Shrek to import collision
surfaces (body, legs etc...) from PDI proprietary software into Maya
for use as cloth collisions. I have also used this technique for
baking out muscle systems deformations or for using cloth as a hair
driver. It is very useful when used appropriately.
