Macromedia is looking at porting it's apps to Linux
first via Wine and eventually native versions.

While not as solid ad Xpress Pro or Premiere For editing/FX there is http://www

And of course FX Tree :)

Subject: Re: general v4 slowness

I used to have PS 7 running under wine and have a wacom tablet working
under linux. Of course there will be some overhead running the
application in emulation. The performance hit was more measureable than
noticeable for the work that I was doing.
After a while, I just learned gimp and never bothered to go back to
Photoshop. These days my work is more technical than artistic.

Currently I have vmware so that I can compile stuff for windows. I also
use wine to run steam. Other than that my system is pure linux.

About 2 years back I worked in a pipeline where 3d workstations were
linux and the artist(2d) workstations were mac. Everything worked quite
well together.
