Trouble with imported w3d members and filesavemode

Hi,
  I am trying to build a little thingy that will help to fix up my
lightwave w3d animations. If I have more than one set of bones, only
the first set works, so I have to break up my lightwave file into
separate files for each boned object, and then export each file to w3d.
I made a utility that puts the files all back together again for me
into one member by using the file I/O xtras to get a dialogue box, and
then I load the file into a blank w3d member, then transfer it to
another(the final) member using clonemodelfromcast.  But the member
doesn't stay, even though I have:

 gWorld.filesavemode=#saveall

Even when I immediately copy and paste my altered member, or duplicate
it;  the duplicate comes out as a blank member.

?
