Back My bad, it's too early in the morning and I corrected that in another mail, I really was thinking of friction and air resistance/turbulence (that does make a difference) but threw everything together, I need food and more caffeine.

now wasnt there the fellar that once said.... ...the speed an object falls is not related to its mass.
well gravity is the attraction between two objects: the earth and your falling object. But the mass of your of gold and pvc sphere is neglectable compared to the mass of earth. Thats why we use the 9.81 m/s2 formula. No mass in that one. It only varies very slightly, depending on your position on earth. Of course, there is the question of friction. But between two spheres of equal form there is no difference.
So both spheres will touch the floor at the exact same moment. Its counterintuitive, I know. And I still dont believe it myself. But you can test it fairly easy. You just need a gold sphere:-)
To be complete: everything changes at the moment the object enters in collision, because thats where its mass, energy and momentum play a major role.
