What many people tend to do is roll their own keyup / keydown events.
If you just need instant 'is a key pressed' functionality, then you can
use keyPressed("a") etc which will allow for more than 1 key to be
pressed and caught at once.
Of course, you'd need to cycle through all keys you want to catch :/
