issue with workgroup shaders , XP and batchserve

issue with workgroup shaders , XP and batchserve

I'm not using Batchserve Kim, haven't got round to setting things up yet.  It
was a test using Smedge.  We have the same problems though, we're getting
shaders installed to the Workgroup folder rendering fine in the GUI but not
rendering at all from batch.  The verbose output gives all the usual 'cannot
create object 0gkjsdlkgsl.....' gubbins where shaders simply can't be found.

Most confusing.  the only thing I can think of is a reason they might have to
all have individual setenv.bat files.  At the moment their setenv.bat files
call a centralized one on the server.

I checked on a fresh install and nothing to do with the setenv.bat seems to
change on adding a workgroup path (as you'd expect in any case...)

stating the ridiculously obvious, are you sure that batchserve is using the
correct version of Xsi?

Hi Jim, Dirtmap is packaged as an addon to start with so I guess that can't
be it unfortuantely.  Thanks though.

Try packing the dirtmap shader into an add-on, then installing the add-on
in your workgroup.  I have found that .mi files generated by XSI look for
workgroup shaders in the Addons\Application directory tree rather than the
Application directory tree.  Perhaps you are experiencing a similar behavior.

we have 2 new XP workstations ( the rest is Win 2000 ).
I've installed 4.0 on all machines,  with dirtmap as a workgroup shader.
Everything seems fine appart from :

On the 2 XP machines, dirtmap is fine when rendering from the GUI but
when rendering on batchserve the shader is missing (replaced by the
default shader).

The log says XSI cannot register dirtmap.spdl.
