The account that the Batchserver service uses needs to have access to the
workgroup\network resources.  Do you see any messages like so in the batchserve
log.

WARNING : XSI is running under the 'SYSTEM' account.
This is not recommended - XSI may malfunction or hang.  If you are executing
XSI through telnet or RSH, make sure that the telnet or RSH service is running
under a user account. This is done in the Services applet in the control panel.
(the Log On As option when double-click the service's name)

the account that is logging on to the XSI Batchserve service

has it be added to the local admin group to be able to write the shader in to
the registry correctly

Hi Jim, Dirtmap is packaged as an addon to start with so I guess that can't be
it unfortuantely.  Thanks though.

Try packing the dirtmap shader into an add-on, then installing the add-on in
your workgroup.  I have found that .mi files generated by XSI look for
workgroup shaders in the Addons\Application directory tree rather than the
Application directory tree.  Perhaps you are experiencing a similar behavior.

Subject: issue with workgroup shaders , XP and batchserve

we have 2 new XP workstations ( the rest is Win 2000 ).

I've installed 4.0 on all machines,  with dirtmap as a workgroup shader.

Everything seems fine appart from :

On the 2 XP machines, dirtmap is fine when rendering from the GUI but

when rendering on batchserve the shader is missing (replaced by the default
shader).

The log says XSI cannot register dirtmap.spdl.
