That's gonna act like a subdivide polygons tho, I seem to remember subdivide
used to work by projecting a 2D or 3D set of grids, which is exactly like
dice works now.

There is another way in v4:

Press '+' for Subdivision Surface, but set the Subdivision 'Rule' ( in
Geometry Approximation ) to 'Linear'.
