Calling Kim - displacement problems!

Thanks Kim - this is basically what we have - the length is defined by the
amounts specified in the change range node for the height of the displacement.
I just seem to remember there being some discussion about using LDA settings
instead - maybe I had a dream or something.......burble burble!!

The only time I've had crashes is when the mesh pretty much fills screen and
the detail is high, in other words, when there's loads of polys. We were also
using GI and I always figured it was memory.

The key is to use view dependant, this way you generate as much detail as you
need for any given frame and no more. It's just more efficient.

 Basic settings, though;

Use fine, view dependancy on. Length is the maximum length to which polys
will be subdivided, measured in pixel diagonals, so set it to somewhere between
0.2 and 3, depending on the sharpness of the detail you need - very fine,
straight line stuff, set it low, smoother stuff, set it high. The max subdee
you should set as high as it'll let you - it's clamped by the length parameter.

That's about it, really. If you're having problems, start with a high length
and work down. Better to do this than lower the max level because you'll see
better what's going on and the length parameter is the important one.

If you still get problems, check out the verbose output, it may give hints
and remember, BSP settings play a part and if you've optimised these before you
apply the displacement you may need to readjust them.

Let me know how it goes.

We have a problem with random crashing that I have narrowed down to
displacement - as soon as I turn it off, it renders, it is not  amemory problem
, and watching verbose renders says nothing - Kim you were talking about some
displacement settings that you found worked well the other day - I can't find
the mails, can you please remind me of your findings!

   Thanks

   Sandy
