Map Files Not Helping

When you create your .map files, make sure you give the -p and -r options to
imf_copy.  -p will precompute the pyramid map, so it doesn't have to be done
at render time, and -r (i.e. tiled .map file) can improve cache coherence.
However, the most important factor in fixing your .jpg-.map speed issue is
to move your .map files to the local hard drives on your render nodes.
Using nonlocal .map files will result in a lot of network traffic.  With a
little scripting and a copy of gmake, you can automate the .map file copying
so that it occurs only when your source texture map files are changed.
