when you add a usb to serial adapter to a laptop.. generally it is at
com port 3 or com port 4.. check the device manager to see which one it
installs at.

I am just back from my retailer with a brand new USB serial adaptator and
when I try to instal my licence key in the Softimage Licensing tool I've got
"SPM FATAL ERROR blablabla CAN'T OPEN PORT COM 1 : FOR DONGLE TYPE "S10"
blablabla".
I try to edit the spm.config switching COM1 and COM2 but it change nothing.

Where can I find the SPM driver for this kind of setup (usb>Serial>XSI
dongle) ?

There are a couple of issues with usb dongles. They're not fully
hot-swapable so if you remove one, you'll need to restart the license server
when you replace it, and the server dies on hibernation. Again, you'll have
to restart. That said, they're smaller, neater, nicer. I never really liked
the serial adapter cable hanging off the back. I'm happy with it.

I just got the SPM USB dongle working on my laptop; it's
great... way better than the USB->Serial->Parallel->Dongle
combo I was using before.
