Back Map files alone (assuming the same resolution and no pyramidal) aren't supposed to slow down or speed up a render at its processing stage, but there's a huge difference in size between a jpg and a map.
Do you see the same significant performance decrease if you render locally with the clip set to load in memory? Because if you don't then it's more likely to be the network taking its time to push the data around, not really a MRay issue.

Hi Guys I have a character (dragon) and it has hi res images for textures (4000 x 4000) mapped onto Colour , Specula, Bump, Transparency ect. When I leave them as .jpg file the scene renders pretty quick but crashes on some frame (randomly) probably cause of ram usage.
I have optimized BSP setting and nothing changes.
So now I have converted JPG to Map files, but my render is really really slow..... Why is this and what can I do to fix this.
Claudio
