Well first off its really the only way to accomplish the affect he wants
without resorting to orthographic projection, so I don't think there is much
choice. However being unsupported is not a bad thing, it just means MM were
not able to run it through all of their checks.

I've never heard anyone from MM say it was going to stop working, and i'd be
very suprised if it does becuase it must be tapping into the same code as
used by transparent polys. Sure if they changed that, fixed some of those
old issues, it may not work, but there should still be some workaround to
achieve the same effect.

Personally I doubt they'll ever ditch it now.
