FXtree DOF 2004-06-02 - By Luc-Eric Rousseau
Back The depth of field effect in the fxtree is the old 2D Output Shader of the same name. It's a slow accumulation buffer method, although that wasn't obvious when it's used an output shader, since the rest of the render isn't instantaneous. It's still the same in XSI 4.0, however since there is an SDK to add plug-in in V4.0, one could write a fast Z Blur - which isn't exactly the same algorithm, but it's a good approximation of the result - to replace it.

I too come from a DF background, and have the same problems with the FXTree. In particular, the fact that you have to let go of a slider before getting any feedback, as opposed to getting on-the-fly feedback as in DF.
