Back sounds like a hardware problem. Also, it wasn't uncommon to use cpio for tape archiving on SGIs.

Jim,
Have you got to work before? I download a trial version of Powerzip that has "tar" I got NT to recognize the 150 archive tape drive but I got an error "Tape device reported an error on a request to rewind the tape" "Error reported: hardware failure" when I put the tape. Any ideas?
Thanks, Leoung

They were probably written with tar, so you just need to get tar for
Windows. You should be able to find it with a web search.

Here is a silly question, I have some models I would like to retrieve from
150 MB data tape that was backup in Iris on an Indigo. Can I retrieve
them on a PC?
Is there a magic utility? or is it wishful thinking?
