Perhaps your tape or drive are broken.  Get a new, blank tape, and use tar to
write a directory of test files to it.  Read the files back and verify that
they are correct.  This will determine whether your tape system is working
correctly.

 Jim,

Have you got to work before?
I download a trial version of Powerzip that has "tar"
I got NT to recognize the 150 archive tape drive but
I got an error "Tape device reported an error on a request to
rewind the tape" "Error reported: hardware failure" when I put the tape.
