filtering procedural textures

filtering procedural textures

I looked around on the archives and found a few small and vague references to
this, but I wanted to see if my assumptions are correct. Is it impossible to do
any kind of elliptical filtering or mip-mapping to procedural textures? I have
a fairly detailed repeating image on an object that is getting all kinds of
moiré.

Thanks in advance.
