A quick easy way to use the spring function is

Draw a single bone 2D chain

Select Effector,
SHIFT Sel Root

Run the following

ApplyOp "Spring" , ,2

Move the root to see the lag effect on the effector
To control the Spring properties
Select the end effector and open up a ppg on its Global Transform
Lots o controls

the values in the PPG are veeerrrry sensitive

I don't know why it isn't exposed.... maybe it wasn't quite finished..

But it works well, especially chaining them together.

There is a built-in spring operator in XSI since v3.0. it is well hidden and
doesn't show up in a menu, but it's there.
mmh I guess that wasn't particularly helpfull, now was it...

there is also an addon at http://www.cmtools.fr.vu/ that is very effective

   Hope it helps

     Hi all.

I need to make a sort of spring-like motion, like following another
object with an adjustable delay and mass, damping, restore force, etc.

Does this exists somewhere as a tool or script ?

     Any idea ?

     Thanks

     jm
