In the explorer set your scope to Passes (P).

Instead of double clicking on the render options for the "Specular" Pass, double
click on the name of the pass "Specular."
Now on the ppg, the title will be the name of the pass and you can edit the
render
options.
If the render options is not visible, you might have to hit the little arrow to
make it appear.
