As for Linux on AMD or Intel I haven't seen any difference at all. With AMD you get a bit more "bang for the buck" if you are going with a dual machine (Since you need overpriced Xeons on Intel). But if you are going with a single CPU machine Intel would be a better choice since they are a bit faster, and non-Xeon CPUs are almost as cheap as AMD's.
