If you don't and you've not much experience of anything other than Windows, it may not be so easy. The main thing would be file sharing across networks. You'll need to get Samba configured and running. You should also be careful about which kernel version you get; check out the softimage web site for what they do and don't support. Not trying to put you off here, Linux is a great thing and for the most part it works well. It's just that when it doesn't, if you're not sure what's going on it could be a pain. If you do go down that route, post here for help.
