I think what he's trying to say is that most tutorials say...plug this into this, and that into that, and here's the result. I think what he's after is an explanation of what each type of node does, and in what type of instances it might be used in the render tree.

Im newly working in Softimage XSI and so interesting when I working in render tree
Its really a big wizard but I have a big problem inside render tree there are a many
difficult node I don't understand it deeply like ...Conversion...Math

and specially the node property like scale and Boolean, integer
..
I read the online documentation ..(shader description) but I don t get the goal...
If anyone have any way to help me
