Procedurals in XSI for creating waves?

Procedurals in XSI for creating waves?

Hello Adam,

I hope you and your wife had a good time in Copenhagen!

I have tried it yes, but I'd rather not as it is likely to produce artifacts,
and besides it is a bit hard to do properly without post app style curve based
corrections. Actually a Math Exponent using Bias comes closest to what I want.

Still it can't really come up with the nice cauliflower style profile the
Combustion Turbulence produces :( I even tried Kim Aldis Turbulence node, which
produces nice irregularity but not the cauliflower style.

I tend to agree with Adrian on this - we need more fractal/noise/turbulence
shaders.

Best Regards

 Hi there Morten,

Have you tried colour correction with the XSI fractals/clouds  so that you
have more emphasised peaks?

I am working on creating ocean surfaces and for this particular thing I
would prefer to use procedurals in XSI for displacement. Trouble is it seems a
bit hard to get a good wave shape with the included procedurals. I have had
good succes with Combustion Turbulence and wonder if anyone here know how to
get that from the Rendertree?

   See comparison here:

   http://colorshopvfx.dk/XSI/fractal_displace_comparison.jpg

The Combustion Turbulence creates nice ridges for wavewcrests as seen to
the far left, and I seem to be unable to even get close with Fractals or Cloud
nodes.

   Any suggestions?

   TIA!
