I'm sure this isn't the case for everybody, but I've worked in a few places,
some of which had both XSI and Max in the pipeline and some really good max
users around, more then once some plug-in was creating problems and had to
be uninstalled for a scene to work fine.

I've also seen this happening very recently with some people who had MAJOR
issues getting C4D rendering for days (for those who are not familiar with
C4D it's a very stable app with a soloid rendering engine) until they
uninstalled just one tool from a plug-in pack.

The more you scatter development and rely on 3rd parties the more you
compromise interoperability (at first) and sooner or later stability as
well.

i have a ton of plug ins for max and i don't have any problems with them
crashing the program.
