Flash in Director works great as a general rule. I guess the first question is: why not just make the button functionality in the Flash movie? Then Director doesn't need to worry about it at all.
Generally, you can use Flash movies in Director very easily, you can pass messages to and from the host Director movie using the getURL command from Flash and various functions in Director. The only warning is not to use too many Flash movies simultaneously on the Stage, as they can slow things down badly.
