Passes partitions and hiding

Passes partitions and hiding

Hey Todd,

Trust me on that one, there are some mysteries that are better left
alone, like visibility with Layers, Groups, Partitions, Objects, Parent
inheritence, animation of Hide unhide and Aliens. All together these
folks can royally f?#$%@!up a scene.

But in the meantine, here are some trick to workaround these many many
issues that you barely just started to experiment.

1) Selecting the Object in question -> Type in the command line `AddProp
"Visibility"`
This is not an exposed command through the UI (See above)
But this will definitively reset your visibility properties
It will also help in the case that this property simply
disappear from your objects.

2) An other way is to duplicate the object (which with the proper
duplication option, it should keep all the same animation, properties
and parenting) Delete the original. Some time this works in case option
1 doesn't. It simply resets your default properties to the scene root
settings.

3) And when all fails, simply create an override at the object level
(Really not clean but that's the brutal force) add in the rendvis and
viewvis, then control from there your visibility settings.

Quite frankly option 1 will work in 80% of the cases. Option 2 is about
12% and Option 3 (which I actually add to use lately) will be the
remaining of the time.

I sure hope this helps you and others.

Ludo.

Subject: Passes partitions and hiding

I am having the most bizarre problem

I am hiding certain objects using partitions.. everything is working
fine..

but now i get this strange error where i have manually hidden an object
temporarily and switched passes (all this is while animating and
tweaking.. not render related) and then i get stuck where i cannot
unhide an object though there is no override or anything like that on
the object.. so i have to save.. exit and restart XSI and then i can
unhide the object..

any one else experience anything like this?

3.5, and 3.51
