Not for texture maps it hasn't.  Even WETA (who used teh earlier builds of
ZBRUSH 2 for LOTR Trilogy) continued using Deep Paint for actual Texture
maps.

As for sculpting, BRBRUSh 2 is in a class of it's own.

have you tried  Z Brush version 2? I would say deep paint has been
blown out of the water.
