Greetings Dunbar:
Sorry for not answering you sooner.  I am doing some dev with the Blitz3D
engine.  Poly meshes can be exported from maya by exporting as *.x (directX
format), and bringing into Blitz.  The V direction of UV maps has to be
flipped, but it works well.  Animations can be exported the same way, except
that the *.x file then needs to be opened into a little program called
Ultimate Unwrap 3D, and saved in B3D format, native to the Blitz3D engine.
The frame rate has to be scaled way down, but then it works very well, at
least so far.
I like Blitz because I am not a hard core C/C++ programmer, and Blitz is
simple, robust, and it works.
I am using Blitz3d in teaching an upper level course here at Bowling Green
State University, and we are able to interact with our Blitz worlds in a
large, stereographic projection environment called The Geowall.  Blitz can
also be networked multiplayer, although I have not gone there yet.

Greg
