You can't understand until you use it :)

There's two roads development can walk, one is answering blindly to user
requests and putting in what the competition put in in their previous
release, the other is trying to come up with something that is ahead of the
userbase thinking, this is exactly the case for construction mode.

While it's not the same of a fully functional operators network it makes the
whole thing A LOT more functional and manageable, and without confusing the
hell out of artists like networked solutions do.

It took me about 2 or 3 hours to get used to it, and the implementation is
really smart; if you do something that will create an operator while in the
wrong mode (like enveloping in modeling mode) it will prompt you and ask if
you want that in animation mode, same for shapes and so on.

The proof of how intuitive it is comes from how we worked here, some people
who never touched XSI came in and had to use V4 straight away, and they all
found the split stack a wonderful thing and perfectly logical; I should also
add that thank to the stack we could send rigged models to people who had to
build new shapes for them without worrying about them killing something,
last but not least secondary shape animation is the definitive mesh-screw-up
patcher.

Most of what this new system allows was already possible, but it required
somebody who knew perfectly how XSI stacks and interacts with operators, and
it was very easy to FUBAR something if you forgot a step, now it's a lot
friendlier and faster, and the overhead in situations when you wouldn't need
it is close to 0

P.S.

The new SDK rocks even more then the construction mode :)
