Subject: Salary Question 2004-01-22 - By Dobson, Jeff
Back It really depends where you are as salary varies widely with location. That said, I haven't know too many people who have started that high. I started at a small fraction of it in the Midwest. Remember there are a lot of people who want to get in to games so the employers are at a negotiating advantage with new talent. Later on, after proving yourself invaluable, the negotiating power swings in talent's direction - as does salary. The bigger studios might flirt with that amount as a starting salary, but rarely hire raw artists. You would be lucky to get much more than half that at smaller scrappy studio - especially if you have no previous experience.

I was watching a story on one of those business channels about artists entering the Video game industry. It said average starting salary nation wide is $53,000 a year. Does anyone know if this is true?
Thanks
