They are not well enough advertised in my opinion, he has tutorial vids and allsorts, they are like quick stretch for bone chains, I used it recently on the legs of a bug I was animating, took a little tweaking, but it did exactly what it said on the tin...
Failing that, using soft constraints for the chest and pelvis depth of the spine will give you a soft flowie movement, or even constraining nulls to a softbodied cylinder, plotting the motion and using these to constrain the bones to...
But the string Op is a good bet...
