Subject: Re: general shelf gui question 2003-12-17 - By Andrew Cammarano
Back Hi,
I'm designing/writing an interface in Maya for an asset management system. The user is given a choice during Maya startup to use my system or to just use Maya in their usual way without my interface. Menu's and that sort are easy to either create or not create...but I want to create a shelf specific to this interface. If the user chooses to use the system the shelf will appear, if they choose not to, then no shelf. So given that, I could use some advice on the following:
Creating a shelf tab is simple, but how do I dynamically add buttons?
How do I keep this from being stored in the userPrefs --or how do I identify and delete my tab in the case that I find that it was stored in prefs and is built in interface, but the user has chosen not to use my interface?
I guess, I'm asking if there are ways to relatively easily build and destroy shelf tabs and their buttons without dealing with userPrefs and shelf*.mel files. The shelf I would be making serves no purpose if the user is not using the asset management system.
Thanks for any advice on this,
-andrew
