Hey Nacho,

As written by will, you'll find the port that you are using on your
machine through this file

C:\winnt\system32\drivers\etc\services
Look for this line or something similar to it.
   mi-ray3xsi3_5_1
Right next to it you will see 70XX/tcp

this is the number that you are looking for.  It's different on
everyones machine as XSI looks for the next available port when
installation is running and depending on how many installation you've
been through your number could be as high as 7045 who knows...  So when
you know this number just replace it with the 7007 of will's
explaination.

So the 70XX is the number you are looking for, and this is the port for
XSI.

Hope this helps,

Ludo.

Is 7007 the port for XSI 3.5.1?

One thing you should do is get rid of the duplicate .rayhosts files
which can be complicating the process.  Just stick with the one you
specified in the setenv.bat file
For troubleshooting confirm that you can ping the host machine from the
master, Confirm that your host machines port number is accurate by going
to it's system32\etc\drivers\services file and using the port number
that is specified by the Mi-ray service i.e --> mi-ray3xsi3_5_1
7007/tcp

You can test the connectivity by telneting into the host machine ->
telnet hostname mi-ray3xsi3_5_1 or using ray3 -verbose on hosts
hostname:7007--
also confirm your available Mental Ray licenses.

Hope that helps.

Subject: Ray3host Nightmare! Pls HELP!

Hi guys,

I have been fighting with ray3host for hours!

I have the IPs with port (192.168.0.3:7003) and I checked the setenv.bat
for the location of .ray3host, and put a copy of it in all the posible
paths, and changed it in the setenv.bat to match them all, one by one,
but no way.

How can I debug what's going on? The verbose doesn't even name the
slaves as errors.
What can I try?

TIA,
Nacho
