Back they pay for the final product... it should only be the rendered pics imo..
the databases are part of the software you create to deliver the product, they include scripts, shaders, models,ect. We had this problem +/- one year ago, what a nightmare!!!! In the end we drew up a terms and contitions stating that we own all the dbs unless otherwise agreed.
you should decide what's more importaint to you; keeping the files or getting a bad reputation with your clients for being anal
