I don't get lock-ups, but the behaviour of the render region is definitely
different in the latest version. It certainly refreshes itself more than it
used to.

This isn't something I've seen either on my own gear or any of the
workstations around me so I'd guess it's a graphics card issue. Check to see
if your card is on the approved list and check the drivers are fully up to
date.
