Subject: Mental ray -- >please advise 2003-12-12 - By Wood, Matt
Back I used to find MR almost unusable because of the lockups you describe. Thankfully someone suggested setting the Physical Memory Limit in the Render Globals to 800. Since then it's been much better.

As a side note i have experienced some crashes with mrfr, like most of you i think. For example if you reuse your fg rays (unklick the FG Rebuild)sometimes mental ray refuse to start.Down in the help line you can see the translation prossess but right after that, the cpu goes down to zero. Even when i hit esc on keyboard, it doesnt aboard the render process.I know its still an early version of mr for maya,so hopefully in the next update/version of maya, they will fix many issues/bugs.
