HI

Couldn;t help but read your post..The software used for Nighcrawler was
Fluid propulsions system fed into HOUDINI from Side fx  to get the final
result. it;s all procedural. And rendered in Renderman and Vmantra done
by R and H in Cali . the same guys who did the shadow world in dare
devil .   You might beable to get something similar in MAYA but be
prepared to work long and hard. Because to match the power of Houdini is
really hard in maya.. Lots of  Mel scripts and great use of particles.
So good luck and yeah those DVD;s do help they are very good.
