What you need is the "large BSP" acceleration method.  Unfortunately, I
cannot find a way to select it from the XSI GUI.  If you use stand-alone
mental ray, you can enable large BSP acceleration by specifying
"-acceleration largebsp" on the command line, or you can add "-acceleration
largebsp" to the MI_RAY_OPTIONS environment variable.
