yet another limitation..

yet another limitation..

RE: yet another limitation..ok.. now i am bit confused...

Francois showed an example which seems similar to my render tree setup.. and it
works..

i didnt plug the flower into the transperancy of phong4, because I wanted to
have a different material for the flower..
at first I even used a lambert node, cause i didnt want any specular..
This is just an excersize I gave my intern.. it's not for a real project...
I will try the ray_type again, on a new scene.. seems weird it works in
Francois's example and not in mine ..

anyway thanks for all who helped!

cheers,
Oz

It's a bit of a bummer. The shadow color is changed as a side-effect so it
will not work with mixing.

Most shading works by returning a color but shadowing is different with
mental ray as it gives a color which is supposed to get modified.

Why don't you instead mix the alpha of the flower image with the transparency
input of Phong4?

I tried using the ray_type node, no luck there either :)

here's a few images to show the problem:

 http://www.coolcalb.com/~oadi/pix/shadow.jpg

it's not for a project, I am teaching an intern, and she asked me why the
 shadow went dark and opaque..
I still cant figure it up :)

If I am doing things right, it looks like a mental ray limitation.. (3.2)
or maybe it's my mental limitation hehe..
