Back Hey Duncan,
Please don't use material clusters anymore, or until Softimage certifies all issues have been fixed. Right now you are taking big risks by doing that, as you might have all kinds of random problems, like: objects in a partition turn all gray, clusters are solid black, objects are solid black but clusters, and so on.
