I don't know when version 4 will be released, but it does away with .spdls so I
wouldn't spend too much time making custom tools to help you out. However, I
use them all the time, and now that I am used to the workflow, I can alter an
spdl in well under a minute.

don't worry about reconnecting anything until AFTER you get the PSet the way
you want it. Just work on it and use the "ctrl+shift+rightclick --> refresh"
menu item to see the changes. Then when you have it right, go back to your
original and the new PSet and connect it. Remember: after you refresh an spdl,
make sure you start a new scene as the scene stores some part of the old spdl.
If you don't keep this in mind it can be confusing to see your new spdl with
it's old face come up.

As for making GUID numbers. Just make a custom pset in xsi and middle click the
"parameter button" button a bunch of times after you have added your 1st one.
Install the spdl using "ctrl+shift+rightclick --> install" then " --> edit"
copy the GUID numbers and then uninstall the temp spdl you created. The GUID
numbers generated are then free for use.
