If you want to send me your conf file, I'll definitely take a look but we
are almost certain its not that.  There are no restrictions on permissions
for any user.  The difference between our setup and most other setups is
that we are not running Redhat v8 but Redhat Enterprise version 3 and we
were told by the support folks behind RedHat that this seems to be a bug
with that version of Redhat.  We installed an older version of Samba and it
seems to be running ok for now.  Thank you all for your help.
