OTOTOT Re: SGI in Talks to Sell Alias Software Business 2004-02-13 - By Luc-Eric Rousseau
Back There is in practice nothing in common between Combustion and Flame except the look of the buttons and sliders. Everything else is mostly marketing, and so few people have access to an Flame or Inferno to tell it's two different programs written by two different teams at two different companies, with two different goals and market. The mini version of Flame and Inferno is called Flint.
Which is not to say that Combustion isn't a cute alternative to AfterFx, I am just pointing out that it isn't a trainer or mini version of discreet F/F/I line of SGI products.
I suggest consulting to various discussion forums on places like creativecow .net for more details on the subject.
