Sudden drop in performance

Sudden drop in performance

If I follow your instructions exactly, Maya crashes...I think it is
because I export selected, reopen the scene (which has one copy of the
object) and import the object, I now have two copies of the object, each
with its own brutal history bogging down the program.

When you say 'open again', do you mean start a new scene, then import
the object?  I tried it this way as well, exporting both as a maya
binary and a maya ascii, and both times the history stayed with the
object when I imported the object back.  If I uncheck the 'history'
button in the export options, I still end up with the problem of losing
the skin weight information.

I'm sure there is some step or setting I'm missing.

export your scene then reopen
do not use the select all feature.
select your objects by hand export selected then open again
this should clean things up.

Thanks to all who gave suggestions...I'm such a freakin' noob that I
embarrass myself. :) Apparently I've allowed an immense number of UV
tweaks to build up in my history. If I delete all history, everything
runs much smoother, BUT I seem to lose important things like edited
vertex weights and 'bind skin' position. Is there an easy way to delete
just the UV tweak/cut/sew history? If I try to open 'all inputs', I get
an error message, probably because if the high number of inputs there.
Thanks again for the help.

If it is not the result of several dozen vertex tweeks with history, I'd

check to see if it does the same thing in a new script with only a
default sphere
to push around. If it does it with a new script and a default sphere,
you
could have corrupted drivers, spyware, or a piece of hardware crapping
out.
