Back Use an optical mouse. It will work on most surfaces, eg your leg, the arm of a chair, your friends leg etc. The minor inconvenience of having to carry a mouse in your laptop bag and plug it into your usb port is far outweighed by the frustration and pain of trying to use a laptop touchpad to do 3D.
