Back 24,000 x 7500 is the size I'm rendering it at. The actual printout size will be 18'4" x 5'9" 150 ppi that's 30,300 x 10,500 px... but no chance I'll render that resolution so I'll res it up in photoshop (max image size in photoshop is 30,000 px wide) so I'll get close. I am render some pieces at the final res to composite so most of the critical images will be sharp.
It's going up as wall paper in a conference Rm so people will be right on top of it.

um .... 24,000 pixels is 24000x1800x4 bytes (guessing height) = 1.6Gb, all in memory at the same time. Add in some Xsi, some data, some services and Windows the Well Know Memory Hog and you start to get some idea. From how far is this mural going to be viewed closest?

Try to convert all your texture in .map -- -- Original Message -- -- From: James_A_Coletta@(protected) To: XSI@(protected) Sent: Monday, February 09, 2004 1:31 PM Subject: Large scn only renders on laptop
I have this large scn to render at 24,000 px wide for wall mural went to render on my HP dual Pentium 4... 2 gigs ram workstation. without anything else running I dropped the scn on the XSI_3.5 Batch Rendering icon it starts goes in to mem grabs ~30 % then quits. For 2 days I tried all different mem, aliasing, paging file settings, even tried reducing allot of the geometry no luck, also had a friend try with the same results, on 3.5 and 3.5.1
But then I tried it on my Dell M-50 Pentium 4 M 1gig ram and it rendered without going into any mem swapping. It just cranked away slow but sure.
Any idea why the power machines failed and my laptop succeeded?
