I already posted this morning.  But I think that the Rendering book from Alias
(for maya) is outstanding.  I used the 4.5 version for my Texture and Lighting
Class at Expression Center.

The full title is "Learning Maya 5  | Rendering".  Its published by Alias and
is an outstanding resource.  Its very well written and the tutorials cover a
lot of ground.

I only just got the new edition for Maya 5 AND THEY DROPPED THE PRICE.
Yeehah.  There's definately enough new stuff in it to make it worthwhile
updating your library.  It now covers Mental Ray, the Vector Renderer and has
lots of new technical info accross the board.  I especially like that they've
added more in the way of a theoretical explanation on how specific rendering
components and settings work, keeping in mind the expense of various
procedures.
